Not So Pleasant Surprises 16/?
current mood: sick
SORRY FOR THE WAIT! I am really really sick with pneumonia so that was the reason for the wait. APPOLOGIES! Lindsey checked into her own hotel room that night. She told Gerard she needed a bit of time for herself. He was relieved, at least she didn’t insist on a divorce right then and there. He didn’t want his marriage to be a failure this far out of the gate. Gerard managed to find them a nice apartment not too far from Frank’s place. Whether this was intentional or not, Lindsey couldn’t say and she didn’t really ask. She was headed out on tour again and wouldn’t be back for more than a weekend for at least a few months. They didn’t discuss Gerard’s current state nor did they discuss him and Frank. Gerard wasn’t sure why, but he didn’t press the matter. He felt she would talk about it all when she got good and ready. Jamia had dealt better with the “baby” situation lately. Frank had told her point blank on many occasions that he would be there for Gerard and their child no matter what. She could either accept that or he was going to have to re-evaluate their relationship. She had never apologized for her actions towards Gerard but he had forgiven her regardless. He wasn’t one to hold a grudge. After all, this was pretty much his fault and he took blame where blame was due. It was getting harder and harder for Gerard to conceal his growing bump, much to his chagrin. He was seeing his physician monthly and a fetal specialist bimonthly. He seemed to be going to the doctor more than he went to the bathroom. Frank attended every visit with him like a doting dad would. Thankfully the other guys weren’t around, including Mikey, to witness all of this. Gerard still wasn’t comfortable telling them yet. Brian knew. Gerard had to tell him. He was more than a bit shocked, as would be anyone who found out this news. He gave a blood oath to keep it to himself. He had, thankfully, managed to stop the booking of gigs. Gerard had taken on a whole new look. He had scored himself a pair of hip maternity jeans, thanks to Jamia. She had pretended to be the one needing them and got them for him. He had an all new love of hoodie's in every color and style. His t-shirt collection had grown considerably, as well as the size of them. Fans were in a frenzy over the reason for the clothing difference. Speculation was all over the net as to why. No one had a clue as to the real reason. He had done his best not to reveal the wide elastic that spanned the girth of this stomach during performances, and the bump the elastic concealed. He was constantly conscious of it; self conscious would be the more appropriate term. His cheeks were rosy and a tad plumper. Everyone figured it was the usual bulk up Gerard tended to undergo when off tour. No one was the wiser really; although Ray and Bob had been giving Gerard hell for his newly acquired style. He took it in stride the best he could. He wasn’t quite as moody as he had been over the last weeks. He managed his emotions a bit better also. He did still have a crying jag every now and then; but nothing major. They had been bouncing around from country to country for about a week and a half. Gerard was beyond tired. Being pregnant on top of touring was more than he had bargained for. He was exactly half way through his 40 weeks; and growing more and more uncomfortable. Thankfully they were hanging out in hotels and riding on planes instead of buses. He didn’t think he could take sleeping in bunks at this point. They had to perform the gigs they had signed up for no "if's", "and's", or "but's" about it. This was the last stop before a twelve day break. They were in He stood against a wall back stage waiting for all the guys to show up and do the jumping jacks. He didn’t do them anymore. No one asked why he just would always manage to be preoccupied. He watched as they all jumped around like idiots then got in on the high fives with them. They took the stage in familiar fashion. Gerard was sporting his only pair of jeans that fit and their own 'DEAD' hoodie. A hoodie that Bob had ragged him to death for wearing. “You never wear your own merch on stage” Bob would say to him. Gerard would just roll his eyes and tell him to go to hell. It was too big. It looked as though it had swallowed him and he was trying to escape. He had on his black sneakers. His new shoe that he never removed, it seemed. This was, to everyone, Gerard’s obsessive compulsive disorder showing through, but for Gerard it was a comfort issue. His feet ached and his back hurt, he didn’t care what the hell he looked like as long as he felt comfortable. He belted out the usual. He didn’t dance as much these days. Not because he was scared he would hurt something, but because he didn’t want to reveal any skin that didn’t need to be. Besides when he pranced around too much his elastic waist jeans would work their way practically below his ass crack. He spent way too much time hitching them up. There he stood, centre stage as always. Frank eyed him constantly. Every move he made Frank didn’t miss it. He had gotten almost possessive of him. The guys did notice, but couldn’t quite figure out why. In the middle of 'Cancer' he felt something. Something strong, a feeling he hadn’t felt before. It nearly stopped him in mid note. He continued to sing. The look on his face changed. Frank noticed from the side of the stage. Gerard put a hand to his stomach as he continued to sing but quickly removed it remembering where he was. Frank was unsure what was going on. It happened again. Gerard glanced towards Frank and his words faltered. Frank was immediately filled with fear. What was going on? He didn’t know neither did Gerard. Mikey was standing next to Frank on the side stage. Only the keyboards were playing. “What the hell?” Mikey asked elbowing Frank looking at Gerard. Frank shook his head. Gerard regained his composure. He finished the song and began to jog off stage. It was intermission for a few minutes. Usually they changed during this time but they weren’t doing the whole band uniform thing anymore so they just used it as a minute to catch their breaths then go back out. Gerard ran by Frank grabbing him by the arm and pulling him out of sight. “What’s wrong?” Frank asked his eyes wild with worry. He waited. He concentrated on his insides. “Well?” Frank asked. He placed a hand on Gerard’s stomach between the other man’s hands. They stood there both very concerned. “God I hope everything is ok.” Gerard said sitting patiently waiting to be sure it wouldn’t happen again. As soon as the words came out of his mouth he felt the sharp gouge in his gut again. Frank’s eyes widened. Gerard noticed. “Did you feel that from the outside?” Gerard asked figuring Frank must have. Frank’s mouth spread into a grin and he nodded that he had indeed felt it. “He moved!” Frank exclaimed. “Dude it must be kicking!” Gerard said shocked and excited all at the same time. This was the first time Gerard had expressed the least bit of happiness or excitement over the matter. Frank grinned even wider at this fact. “It’s your singing, he’s reacting to your singing.” Frank said hopping up and down on his toes with glee. “Nah, surely not.” Gerard said looking doubtful. “Yeah I read that at this point they react to noise from the outside. They can’t fully hear but they can be disturbed or affected by it.” Frank said adding his other hand to Gerard’s protrusion. Gerard grabbed Frank’s wrists and pushed his hands away. “Someone might see.” Gerard said kindly. “I don’t give a shit.” Frank said. “Yes you do, now stop.” Gerard insisted. Mikey stuck his head around the corner. “Come on guys we got to go back out.” Mikey said frowning a bit. They went back out and finished the show. Occasionally Frank would catch Gerard with a hand in his hoodie pocket. Frank knew it was to cover the fact his hand was on his stomach. They bounded off stage to the back; Gerard heading straight for the dressing area, not stopping until he got there. He plopped down on the small sofa immediately shoving his hands beneath the wide waist band, placing them on his stomach. He lay there very still waiting. It was amazing to him. He had continued to feel kicks, gouges, and the slight roll every now and then while he sang. Nothing could describe the feeling and he didn’t want it to stop. He wanted to run out and have all the guys put their hands on his stomach. The door opened and closed quickly. Frank made his way to Gerard and knelt beside him. “Man this is weird.” Gerard said never looking up to be sure it was Frank. “Did he keep moving during the rest of the show?” Frank asked putting his hand in the centre of Gerard’s lower abdomen. “Yeah every five minutes.” Gerard answered. “This is by far the strangest feeling I have ever felt.” Gerard said. A dull thud was felt underneath Gerard’s slightly taught skin. Their eyes met each others instantly. Frank beamed again. He couldn’t believe what he was feeling. Gerard looked away his eyes welling up with tears. “What’s the matter?” Frank asked taking his other hand wiping a tear away from Gerard’s cheek. “I am just worried.” Gerard said with his eyes on their hands below. “About what?” Frank asked softly making soft circles on Gerard’s cloth covered stomach. “About the baby, about me and Lindsey, about me and you, about you and Jamia, about the guys and how they are going to react to this. I don’t know when to tell them. I just… I am tired of having all of this on my mind.” Gerard said with a deep sigh. It was too much to worry about constantly. He felt stressed out all the time trying to hide his secret. He was sick of it. He wanted to tell the others but then he really didn’t. It all went back to his problem at birth. He wanted them to know what was going on but at the same time he felt ashamed for being the freak that, in his eyes, he was. “Ok so we tell them.” Frank offered. “What? No, we can’t right now.” Gerard said rising into a sitting position. “Why not now… why not tonight? What are you waiting on?” Frank asked. “I don’t know I just get all stressed out having to tell people about all of this.” Gerard said honestly. “You won’t tell them… I will.” Frank said. Gerard thought about it for a minute. Why not Frank? After all this had to do with him too and really he had only had to tell Jamia. Frank seemed to handle things better and not get as emotional as Gerard. So it would probably be even better if Frank told them. “Like how would we go about it? I would like for it to be away from the crew, just them.” Gerard said starring into space thinking about it. “Yeah of course. I was thinking wait until we get to the hotel and I would have them all come to our room. I could give them the run down of your situation and how it got to all this.” Frank said putting a hand on Gerard’s neck. “Look at me.” Frank said on his knees in front of Gerard. Gerard looked up. Frank couldn’t help but grin. “Trust me. It will all be fine. Let them react however they want. They will eventually come around. I will take care of them, including Mikey.” Frank insisted. “Ugh, Mikey, I forgot about him. He will be pissed if I am not the one to tell him.” Gerard said rolling his eyes a bit. Mikey and Gerard didn’t really keep secrets, except for this one and this one was a doozy. “We can’t worry about that. There is no reason he shouldn’t be told with the rest of them. It doesn’t matter at this point how he finds out. What matters is that he knows.” Frank assured Gerard. “I guess you’re right.” Gerard said pressing his face into his hands. Frank kissed Gerard’s salty forehead, “Then it’s settled we tell them tonight.”
